My time at fashion week has come to an end and I wanted to get a little real here: This is my third season attending New York Fashion Week and getting to sit front row at shows like this one always blows my mind, mainly because people who look like me (aka not a size zero) often donāt get those opportunities. Itās incredibly nerve wracking to attend these shows, especially when youāre seated next to influencers and high-up editors, all of whom are wearing designer clothing. But being thrown into these situations forces you to build an extra layer of confidence. Without that, thereās no way Iād be comfortable to even attend fashion week, let alone sit in the front. All of this is just to say that yes, Fashion Week is glamorous, but when you donāt look like the average fashionista, it can be a lot more difficult than you might expect. Thankfully, this has started to change, and Iāve even seen that over the past year, and Iām so grateful Iām able to write about this topic and similar ones as part of my job.
